E-Bikes on Boulder Trails and Open Space

The City of Boulder and Boulder County have evolving regulations around where you can ride different types of e-bikes and which types of e-bikes you can ride on specific trails and paths.

The City of Boulder now allows Class 1 and Class 2 E-bikes to be ridden on designated OSMP trails, highlighted in the map here. Class 3 e-bikes are prohibited on Boulder Open Space Trails, both paved and dirt.

Boulder County has additional designated trails that allow e-bikes, primarily in the plains and on regional commuting trails.

Special Note on Jefferson County: Just south of Boulder County, Jefferson County which includes areas such as Golden, Evergreen, and Cold Creek Canyon have more liberal rules about where e-bikes can and cannot be ridden. Unless a trail is designated as a hiker-only trail or explicitly says "no bikes," you may ride a class 1 or 2 e-bike on Jefferson Country Trails. So especially for those looking to ride more single-track mountain bike trails, this is a great nearby option. Visit the Jeffco Open Space Website to learn more.
