I purchased the surly long haul trucker about 2 years ago. I have put about 1,500 miles on it so far and it holds up well. The longest trip so far has been from alabaster hwy 119 to campgrounds at oak mountain and back, approx 50 miles roundtrip. Even with my 200 lbs and another 60 lbs of gear, the bike does not bog down. The gear sifters were a little awkward to use at first, but now that I am used to them, its like second nature. The only wear and tear I have experienced on my bike is the stickers pealing off ;) This is a great bike for touring or riding around town. It was worth every penny.
If you're looking to do more than just go fast, this bike is for you. I recently purchased my LHT from Century Cycles after spending the five previous years riding a 17 pound carbon racing bike. I wanted a bike that I could take anywhere. So far, I've logged just over 600 miles on the bike and I can say with confidence that the LHT delivers a stable, comfortable ride on virtually any type of surface: smooth pavement; rough pavement; gravel; hard-pack;you name it. I've taken rides on this bike that I never would have considered on the racing bike. I also use the bike to run errands around town, and hope to use it for multi-day touring one day. Transitioning from a racing geometry was a bit of an adjustment, but now that I'm used to it, I love this bike. To make the bike even more comfortable, I swapped out the stock saddle for a Brooks B17, which I also love. So far, I haven't found anything about my LHT that I don't like. It's not a bike for fast group rides, but if you want to see places you've never seen on your racing bike, this bike is for you.
